I LOVE this tag, it describes me to a tee. The blogger made my buy it – yes, yes they did.
1. Who are your most influential bloggers? Who are the ones that you really rely on for reviews and swatches?
British beauty bloggers Lily Pebbles and Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup are my biggest enablers at the moment and my go-to’s for reviews. Special mentions go to Essie Button and Ruth from A Model Recommends. Temptalia is the Queen of Swatches, and I hold a lot of regard for her reviews, I automatically get excited about anything she gives an ‘A’.
2. Do you buy a product solely as a result from one review from your favourite bloggers, or do you look for more reviews from others?
I have definitely been known to race out for a product after one rave review from the girls mentioned above, but the majority of the time I will scour Makeup Alley or Google for reviews.
3. What is your most favourite item that you have ever bought as a consequence of blogs?
That’s easy – Emma Hardie Amazing Face cleansing balm. One word: addicted. It will be a happy day if/when this is ever sold in Australia. Tied for second are the YSL Youth Liberator Serum foundation and the Real Techniques makeup brushes.
4. What is your least favourite item that you have ever bought as a consequence of blogs?
Hmm there are a few unfortunately.. The Sheer Expert from By Terry seems to be widely revered by the beauty blogging community, but didn’t really impress me at all. The Nars Satin Lip pencils were really disappointing as well, they dried my lips out completely. I don’t think that’s a common reaction though judging from the reviews, they must just have an ingredient that doesn’t agree with me.
5. Name 5 products you have bought recently as a result of blogs.
*Deep breath* YSL Youth Liberator Serum foundation, Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage, Urban Decay Naked 3, Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder (and I’ll probably get one of the Ambient Lighting blushes when they come out as well), Aesop Chamomile Concentrate Masque. Phew!
6. Have you ever given into blogger hype? If so, which hype?
Umm yes. My most recent acquisition which was hyped to the moon and back was the NAKED 3 palette. Rose-hued eyeshadows don’t even suit me! If I was smart I should have spent my pennies on the first NAKED palette which I think would suit me more, but I bought hook line and sinker into the hype of the 3. Mine has just arrived and I am yet to give it a go, but if all else fails and the shades look horrible on me, at least it’s a very pretty palette to look at!
7. Have you ever avoided blogger hype? If so, which hype?
At the moment, I’m avoiding the hype around the NARSissist eye palette. I love the NARS eyeshadow duos for the gorgeous texture and pigmentation, but I don’t feel like the eyeshadows in the bigger palettes (I have ‘And God Created the Woman’ and ‘Ride up to the Moon’) have the same quality of those in the duos – they seem harder to blend, the pigmentation isn’t really up to scratch, and they seem more powdery. I would be disappointed if I ordered the NARSissist palette and found the quality wasn’t there.
8. Is everything you buy based on blogger reviews or are there some items you buy without checking out a review?
Mostly what I buy is based on blogger reviews, but I’m trying to move away from this and get into the stores to touch and feel and try – only today I went to buy a MAC Huggable Lip Colour based on blogger reviews, but once I got to a MAC counter and tried it, but it felt like their maximum staying power would be all of 5 seconds, and I wasn’t a massive fan of the shades.
