I Love: Face Masks

For me, there’s nothing like relaxing in a hot bath with a red wine in one hand, a book in another, and one of my favourite face masks on.  An exfoliating or brightening mask is an integral part of my Sunday night routine, and I will often treat my skin to cleansing mask during the week to keep things fresh in the lead up to the weekend.  For this week’s ‘I Love’, I’ve had a rummage through my collection and narrowed down my favourite five go-to masks.

Glam Glow
I’ll be honest –  I really wasn’t sold on this mask initially.  After the first application I couldn’t see what all the Glam Glow hype was all about, and the ‘tingle’ part of the ‘tiinglexfoliate’ was so intense it was downright alarming.   But as I’d just blown a good $75 on it (the Mecca consultants get me EVERY TIME), I persisted with it and I’m glad I did. This is now in my (rather large) collection of ‘hated it at first but now can’t live without it‘ beauty products.  The softness of my skin after use is unlike any other mask I’ve used, and my skin looks even-toned and clear the next day. Definitely one for the re-purchase basket!

Aesop Chamomile Concentrate Anti-Blemish Masque
I picked this one up in the hopes it would help me with a charming case of acne I’d been suffering, and do you know, it really does help.  When things are looking a little inflamed and unhappy, I’ll do a thorough cleanse and pop this masque on for about 15 minutes.  The result is noticeably calmer skin, and the next day, the blemishes are looking reduced.  You can also double this up as an overnight spot treatment.  A really handy little product to have in your stash if you suffer from the odd bout of problem skin.

Ilsci Sour Cherry and Blackthorn Gel Mask
The newest addition to my collection, the Ilsci mask is a little gem.  Yes, when you pop this one on you will resemble an extra from a zombie movie and probably elicit screams of horror from your loved ones, but the results are more than worth looking a little frightening for a few minutes.  This is my go-to on a Monday morning – it works to reduce down the ‘I wish I was still tucked up and asleep in bed’ puffiness around my eyes and gently exfoliates my skin, brightening it up for a new week.  Oh, and did I mention, it smells AMAZING?!  I’m a sucker for a delicious-smelling product and this got me hook, line and sinker.

Elemis Fruit Active Rejuvenating Mask
I love getting ready for special events, and this mask has a special place in my heart because it’s always the first step in my glamming-routine.  The fruit extracts perk up your skin and give it an instant glow, creating the perfect, even-toned base for makeup application.  Another one with an amazing scent – think strawberries and kiwi fruit.  Yum.

Ren Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask
A must for your skincare collection as we head into winter.  Ren is a favourite skincare brand of mine, with their commitment to avoiding nasties in their products, and this little beauty is my number one pick from their range.  You’ll feel a little bit of a tingle as this works away (nothing too scary though), and after you wash it off, you are greeting with brighter, smoother glowier skin.  Be warned, Ren doesn’t recommend this for more sensitive skins.

Is there anything here you are going to give a try?  What are your favourite masks and why?

I have and love that exact Glam Glow mask. I had the exact same experience as you and now it’s my main exfoliator. I try and use it once a week to clear my pores and scrub my face, then during the week if I need a top up I’ll use my Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant and my skin loves it. I want to try the SuperMud version but I’m not game enough to fork out another $75 on a mask until I’ve finished every last drop of this one. (watch me get it next week haha!!)

It really is great isn’t it! I was so annoyed at myself for giving in to the hype but now I’m scraping the bottom of the jar and saving my pennies for the next lot – I think I will give the Supermud a try next too so watch this space hehe :) You’ve just reminded me about the Dermalogia Microfoliant too, I loved that while I was using it, will have to re-visit!

Definitely is, same here I debated with myself over if I should get it for the longest time, I definitely had buyers regret at first, but no more! I may wait for your review before I get my hands on it haha :P. The Microfoliant definitely deserves a re-visit x

My favourite face masks are the Aesop Chamomile Concentrate Anti-Blemish Masque for when I am breaking out or my skin is particularly unsettled and the Aesop Primrose Facial Cleansing Masque or Ren Invisible Pores Detox Mask for when my skin is congested.

I really liked the Ren Invisible Pores mask, you’ve reminded me I should pick it up again! Will have to try the Primrose Facial mask, sounds like a good’un.
