NYX is a brand mentioned over and over around the beauty blogging traps, so when I caught word of Target’s 30% off sale, I couldn’t help myself to pop in and grab a couple of choice items I’ve been eyeing off. As a total newbie to NYX, I thought I’d dip my toes into the brand and start out with a few products before getting stuck into the full range. Here’s what I picked up in my mini-spree…
Butter Lipgloss in Tiramasu: As someone who has studiously avoided lip glosses for sometime now, I was eager to see if the Butter Glosses could change my mind. And I love it! Tiramasu is the perfect ‘my lips but better’ shade, perfect on it’s own or easily worn over the top of a lippie to give a glossy sheen for a pretty springtime look. I also give it top marks for the longevity, my lips stay nice and hydrated for a good few hours.
Would I repurchase? Yes! I’m eyeing off the shades Strawberry Parfait and Merengue.
Soft Matte Lip Cream in Addis Ababa: I hate to say it (because I REALLY wanted to like this product) that the matte lip cream ended up being a bit of a fail for me. This shade called out to me immediately and it was an easy choice over the rest of the range, but when I popped it on, it just looked all a bit ‘meh’. The pigmentation wasn’t there at all, even after layering it on a few times. I was more expecting the vibrancy of Bourjois’ Rouge Edition Velvet in Ole Flamingo, but alas it didn’t quite pack the same punch. Another bug bear was that this lippie didn’t stick around on my lips for long at all, even after letting it ‘set’ for a few minutes. Having being spoilt with some fantastic long wearing lippies such as the Opaque Rouges, I was surprised to find the colour had transferred to EVERYTHING pretty much immediately. It certainly didn’t pass the cup of tea and lunch test. The price point is a drawcard, but in this case I would probably prefer to save my pennies for something a little more pigmented and a little more long wearing.
Would I repurchase? No, I’ll put the dollars towards lippies that I know work for me, or more Butter Glosses.
Glam Shadow Stick in Elegant Marble: I pitted this against the By Terry Ombre Blackstar earlier in the week, and given the verdict, you’ll know I’m pleased as punch with this product. A perfect all-rounder – lovely on it’s own or as a base for other products. Elegant Marble is a gorgeous shade, and I’ll be sure to pick up a few other shades in the future.
Would I repurchase? Definitely!
