Australis Velourlips Matte Lip Creams

Australis Velourlips -

After my recent experience with a certain matte lip cream, I didn’t think I’d be trying another version by another brand so soon. But since Priceline are currently offering 3 for 2 on the Australis range, and it just so happened that five new shades of their Velourlips have been released, I quickly found myself the new owner of a few choice picks from the range…

I thought I’d try a variation of shades to get a good gauge of the range, so I grabbed Hon-O-Loo-Loo (a beige-ey nude), Lun-Dun (a purple-ey lilac) and Mi-A-Mee (a tomato red with a touch of pink.)
The first box to tick on my matte lip cream list of criteria is pigmentation: Check. These babies have it in spades. Even the nude shade applies true to the colour in the tube and it only takes a couple of swipes to achieve an opaque finish. The next test is the staying power, and here they also performed – just give them a minute to set and you can chow down to your heart’s delight.

The final hurdle for any long wearing lip colour for me is the comfort-element, and although I’ve caught a few complaints about these lippies in terms of drying out, I didn’t notice any problems at all (and I have quite the temperamental lips when it comes to these types of products.) Once I had popped it on, the wear was so comfortable I all forgot about it. Even the applicator surprised me – sometimes I find can be a bit substandard and tend to deliver more product around my lips rather than on them, but this applicator reminded me of the ones in the Hourglass Opaque Rouge, precision application with no mess.

Oh and they smell yum! If you’re a fan of bubblegummy scents in your lippies (a la Shanghai Suzy) you’ll love these.

All in all, I’m extremely impressed. I think these hold their own again higher priced alternatives, and I’m in love with the shades, I’ll get great use out of all three. If you like the sound of them, you can grab them on the 3 for 2 deal up until the 24th of September.

I really like the look of the new shades, much more wearable than their super bright ones! I may have to give these a go, though I have heard so reviews say they almost chip off because they set/dry down so much?

Hmm I haven’t had that as yet, but chipping off almost sounds painful! Like you’d lose a bit of lip along with it!

I love the new shades! I think they’re perfect for Summer and Spring. I’ve only got one of these and the only problem I have is that they’re a bit drying. A bit of exfoliation beforehand usually fixes it though!

I have definitely heard reports of drying but I find my lips can be incredibly weird sometimes – the NARS Velvet/Satin lip pencils completely dry my lips out when I couldn’t find a single other person who had the same experience with them hehe. Definitely agree on the exfoliation, I’m addicted to my Lush lip scrub!

I had a smell of these in Priceline and they smelt soooo good! Almost every colour was sold out though (besides the testers) and I probably have to many Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets anyways *sigh…

They do smell good don’t they! They were very close to selling out of these at the Priceline I went to as well, I think a couple of the shades I got were the last they had in stock… Hehe at least the Bourjois Velvets are pretty awesome as well x

Oh my gosh these sound amazing! I love the look of the finish xx
