Happy Monday beauty babes! It’s an exciting one at TM HQ – not only because we are on the downhill slide to Christmas (forget the pressies, I’m just looking forward to a full day of uninterrupted trifle-eating), but most importantly, today I’m hosting one of my fave b’bloggers, Dani from KaBOOM! Cosmetics, who is here to take us through her Top 5 Summer Beauty Essentials. If you’ve not yet paid a visit to KaBOOM!, make sure you swing by and have a read – Dani’s comprehensive reviews, true-to-colour swatches and kick-ass writing style always leave me hanging out for her next post. And while you’re there, you can also have nosey into my own Top 5 Summer Essentials list. So without further ado, take it away Dani!
Top 5 Summer Beauty Essentials
Summer, summer, summer time! Y’all know what that means: beaches, bikinis and lots and lots of sunshine! It also means that you’re probably thinking about switching up your makeup routine. If you’re like me and live in sweaty sunny Queensland, it’s very likely that your recent thoughts have been along the lines of “Makeup? I can barely stand the thought of clothes and you want me to wear MAKEUP!?” But fear not, all hope is not lost, we can still make this beauty thing work. Here are my Top 5 Summer essentials:
1. SunSense Daily Face SPF50+ Invisible Tint Finish $14.99 for 75g
Sunscreen is a must for summer, no ifs, no buts! Usually the thought of wearing a greasy, heavy sunscreen under my makeup or even on its own gives me the heebie jeebies but this baby by SunSense is an absolute dream. Not only is it SPF50+ but it’s also lightweight with a matte finish and a very slight tint to hide all those little imperfections. It can be worn alone for a subtle matte look with just a hint of tint or under makeup where it acts like a primer, giving you the perfect base to build your summer look on.
2. Watt’s Up by Benefit $53.00
Summer is all about dat glow, baby! Watt’s Up is the PERFECT addition to your summer makeup wardrobe as its soft focus illumination gives you the perfect sunkissed, summer glow without ever stepping foot in the sun. It’s very buildable so you can go from “oh I just woke up with this healthy glow upon my equisitive cheekbones” to “why yes, I have in fact just left my Victoria’s Secret photoshoot and here, have a free pair of sunglasses so the light of my subtle yet luminous cheekbones doesn’t dazzle your tender eyeballs”. It’s a summer-must have, there aren’t many cream highlighters that can beat Watt’s Up in my book!
3. NARS Blush in Luster $39.00 for 4.8g
Now that you’re protected against UV damage and ready to glow, how about a nice pop of colour to compliment that (fake) summer tan? In summer, I tend to steer away from pink blushes and more towards more orange-toned blushes. Luster is described as a “golden apricot” shade and it has just a dash of shimmer, perfect for adding a nice wash of colour without making you look too clowny or overdone.
4. Urban Decay De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray $41.40 for 118ml from Beauty Bay
Oil that has been quietly sleeping away the winter months seems to suddenly rear its head as summer approaches and the temperature starts to rise. One of the best products for keeping shininess to a minimum is UD’s De-Slick. I spray before and after your makeup routine will ensure that your makeup stays on your face and that you still look fresh even after having to run for the bus in 30+ degree heat!
5. Agent Zero Shine by Benefit $44.00 for 7.0g
I gave this product the ultimate road test in Hawaii where it was much too hot for anything besides a light powder and boy, did it impress! This super lightweight, finely milled powder is an absolute miracle in a bottle. Not only is it amazing at setting your base and keeping shine at bay, it’s also great at making you look like you’ve made an effort when it really is too hot to wear any makeup.
Even though you feel like you’re melting, you can still look good with my Top 5 for Summer! Hope you’ve enjoyed this little segment, let me know what your top products are for surviving this summer.
