theBalm Nude Dude palette*
theBalm LOVES to nude it up. Nude ‘Tude, Nude Dude, Meet Matte (Nude)…. You’ve got to wonder what the dress code is over at theBalm HQ. Meet Matte (Nude) is one of the most versatile and all round excellent palettes I own, and I’ve got high hopes Nude Dude will prove to be just as well-loved in my palette stash.
Nude Dude comprises of four matte shades and eight shimmer shades, ranging from gold and taupe tones to mauve and burgundy tones. One of the things I love the most about theBalm is that you never have to fear their shimmer products – just like the powder in Cindy-Lou and Mary-Lou, these shadows are finely milled so you end up with an eye look that spells ‘soft and subtle sparkle’ and not ‘blazing disco ball’. Although the disco-ball-as-eyeshadow look can be preferential in some situations, such as… the 90’s.
I’m a complete sucker for mauvey purply tones, so I gravitated to them first. One thing I noticed straight away with this palette is it has A LOT of kick up due to the soft texture of the shadows – to the point where I was grateful that I’m an ‘eyes first’ girl when it comes to makeup application, because there was no way a pre-applied base would have survived the fallout cleanup. But moving past that, the shades come up beautifully on the lid – which I LOVE because I’ve been lured in by eyeshadows that apply nothing like what they appear in the pan, those eyeshadow liars.
Next up were the gold and brown shades.
The verdict? I’m a fan. These are super pretty, wearable shades that blend like a dream and translate well from pan to eyelid. Just make sure you’re tapping off all the excess shadow before applying, or apply your base after you’ve finished your eyes.
