I’m feeling very conflicted about the end of January. While we were still in month numero uno, I feel like I have a halfway reasonable excuse to still be living in a post-Christmas fug, daydreaming about having consecutive laptop-free days, watching festive movies while making yummy Xmas food, and having lunch in the sun by the lake nearby. Yep, those rose-coloured glasses are well and truly affixed to my face. I think it’s finally time to channel my inner T-Swizzle, shake it off and get 2015 happening.
Before I do that though, one final revisit of January. MAC’s Melba was my blush shade of choice, suiting the warm, mostly sunny (thanks Melbourne) weather to a tee. All current eyeshadow faves were swiftly moved aside when theBalm’s Nude Dude palette arrived, and nothing else has touched my eyelids since.
Problem skin reared its ugly head yet again, so with yet another consultation of Caroline Hirons’ sudden breakouts cheat sheet, I’ve brought Medik8’s betaGel into the acne-fighting mix (as a substitute for Caroline’s suggestion of Aesop’s Control Gel) and I’m really impressed so far.
MLBB has been the lip look of choice so far this year, and while my bold lip colours are gathering dust and wondering what they’ve done to offend me, I just can’t stop using the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Bettina. Base-wise, Dior’s Star foundation has been the pick of the month – it’s probably one shade darker than my usual shade choice, but with a bit of diligent and careful blending, it’s taking out my usual pasty pallor and I’m loving the slightly bronzier look for summer.
Zo They Say: How to deal with a Blind Pimple and Teach it a Lesson – An oldie but a goodie – I’ve referred back to this post on several occasion this month and it’s been helping me survive blind pimple hell.
Smaggle: How To Be The Star In Your Own Life – I’ve been addicted to Carly Jacobs’ blog Smaggle ever since I discovered it early last year, and I think she really hit the nail on the head with this post. Highly recommended reading if you’re in the mood for a bit of life inspo.
The Lovecats Inc: Beauty: Spring(ish) Makeup – I come for the gorgeous photos, I stay for the enabling. This post turned my face into a heart-eyed emoji over Helen’s makeup picks, and I have a feeling I’m going to be welcoming Clarins’ True Radiance foundation to my base collection very soon.
